Type A – Pre-Applied Waterproofing
Pre-applied Type A waterproofing systems are installed before the concrete structure is cast, typically against the formwork or prepared ground. Once the concrete is poured, the membrane bonds to the fresh concrete, creating a continuous waterproof barrier. This approach is particularly useful for below-ground slabs, retaining walls and structures where external access may be restricted once construction is complete.
Key benefit: The waterproofing is integrated with the concrete during construction, providing a bonded barrier that helps prevent water tracking between the membrane and the structure.
Type A – External Fully Bonded Waterproofing (Post-Applied)
A post-applied Type A waterproofing system is installed to the external face of a structure after the concrete has been constructed. The waterproofing membrane is fully bonded to the substrate, helping prevent water from travelling between the membrane and the structure if damage occurs. These systems are designed to provide a continuous barrier against groundwater and moisture ingress, protecting the structure and internal spaces.
Key benefit: Full adhesion helps prevent water from tracking behind the membrane, limiting the spread of water ingress.
Type A – Internal Applied Waterproofing
Internally applied Type A waterproofing systems are installed to the internal face of a structure to provide a barrier against water penetration. Depending on the system, this may include specialist coatings, cementitious applications or liquid-applied membranes. The selected system must be suitable for the expected water pressure, substrate conditions and intended internal finish.
Key benefit: Provides an internal waterproofing barrier where external application is impractical or access is restricted.
